Advanced Auto Repair - Environment Friendly!

Advanced Auto Repair is proud to be GREEN. Here's how we do it:

We recycle oil, coolant, transmission fluids, power steering fluids and brake fluids.

We use biodegradable floor cleaner, parts cleaner, and degreaser.

We recycle parts washer water.

We have reduced our use of CFO aerosol cans to a minimum.

We recycle used batteries.

RECYCLING WASTE

Did you know that just one quart of oil leaking into groundwater can contaminate as much as 250,000 gallons of drinking water? The automotive repair industry takes responsibility to dispose of waste properly very seriously. But individual automobile owners also find themselves faced with this responsibility from time to time.

The EPA says that motor oil is one of the leading sources of hazardous waste, even in small quantities. However, if we look at the other side of the coin, two gallons of motor oil might produce enough electricity to run a home for a full day, or provide 180 hours of television viewing. Vehicle owners should be aware that car batteries that contain lead, acid, and plastic are a threat to our environment as well as to human health. Advanced is doing all we can to be conscientiously aware of our environment. We are all responsible for recycling.

Driving Greener -

Have you swapped out your ten-year-old SUV for a small compact yet? No? Depending on how many children you have and how much driving you have to do on slick, icy, winter roads, you would probably miss your SUV! But then again, every time you stop at a gas station and fill up, you might be happy as a clam that you wouldn't have to fork over $60-$70 to fill 'er up!

Getting rid of an inefficient gas-guzzler may be one step to being Greener. Sure the little green machines save money on gas, and eliminate tons of carbons in the air, but whatever vehicle you drive, there is even more you can do for the good of the environment.

Plan your driving

Keeping journals works for diets, finances and exercise. It also works for driving efficiency. Write down every time you get in your car and drive somewhere. Keep track of the time of day, the destination mileage & return mileage, if you purchase gas and how much you bought as well as how much it cost. Note what routes you took, did you drive the freeway, or through residential side streets? After a week or two you will begin to see your most common driving habits. From this information you can make some definite conclusions, and decisions about future driving.
Could you have made a phone call instead of driven?
Could you have paid the bill on-line, instead of taking the payment?
Could you have waited a day or two and made two stops with one trip?
Could you have walked, taken a bus, or car-pooled with someone else?

Drive smarter

We all have certain habits we've formed when it comes to driving. After all, we've driven the same way for most of our lives. Depending on how many years you've been driving would determine just how many habits you might need to change. If you're new at driving, this is a good time to start driving with good habits.

The speed limit might say 65 or 70mph but keeping your freeway speed at, or under, 60mph can make a huge difference in the fuel efficiency of your vehicle.

Fast acceleration also can steal fuel quickly - be sure to move gradually to the speed limit - starting and stopping at moderate speeds rather than with bursts and then hard braking.

Driving with the windows open around town can cool the inside of your car but creates terrible wind-drag on highways. Although a/c use lowers fuel efficiency of a vehicle, it is far less of a drag on your engine than driving down the freeway with the windows open. Be smart about using your air conditioning.

Plan your routes. Just like you would plan your shopping route in the grocery store so you're not wandering up and down the same isles several times, plan what stops you have to make in the car. The shortest distance between two points is still a straight line. Get to your destination, any stops along the way and then head the shortest route for home.

Whether you have a larger, less fuel-efficient car such as an SUV, or you have a small environmentally correct import, there is always more you can do to make your vehicle more Green!
